Samsung announces new Galaxy S23 series

Samsung has held its latest Unpacked event, showcasing its latest innovations in the mobile device industry, with the announcement of the Galaxy S23 series.

The global tech company will once again release updated versions of its Galaxy S range of smartphones, with the Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 all coming to Australia in the coming weeks.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra, Samsung’s flagship smartphone, boasts a large 6.8-inch edge display, making it perfect for streaming video content, gaming and browsing the web. It also comes with the S-Pen stylus integrated in the body of the device.

The Galaxy S23 series features a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy processor, 5G connectivity, upgraded cameras and a 5000mAh battery (for the Ultra) – which Samsung is promising provides “worry-free battery” life.

Camera upgrades also see improvements to night photography, and the Ultra’s 200 megapixel camera sensor that combines 16 pixels into one larger pixel to improve brightness and detail in low-light situations.

The Galaxy S23 and S23+ are also impressive, featuring 6.1-inch and 6.6-inch flat displays respectively, as well as 5G connectivity and increased battery capacity of 3900mAh for the base model and 4,700mAh for the plus.

Samsung is really push the environmental side of things with the release of the S23 series, with the company stating that it has increased the use of recycled materials in the latest releases.

The use of recycled aluminium, glass and plastics sourced from discarded dishing nets, water barrels and PET bottles form every Galaxy S23 device. Samsung says that it will prevent more than 13,607kg of waste entering the world’s oceans by the end of 2023.

Samsung Galaxy S23 pricing and release date

Galaxy S23 Ultra pricing starts from $1,949 for the base model with 256GB of storage.

Galaxy S21+ will come in at $1,649, while the Galaxy S23 starts at $1,349 for 128GB.

All models will be available in black, cream, green and lavender colours.

Pre-order starts today, and you’ll be able to buy one in-store from February 17th.
