Rohit Sharma scripts history, becomes highest-scoring captain in single World Cup edition | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Rohit Sharma continued his explosive batting as he once again laid the foundation for India in the ODI World Cup final against Australia in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Rohit took Australian bowlers to the cleaners from the onset smashing 47 off 31 balls studded with 4 fours and 3 sixes. He finished the tournament with 597 runs in 11 matches that saw him become the highest-scoring skipper in a single edition of the World Cup.

The Indian captain went past New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson’s record, set in the 2019 ODI World Cup.

He had scored 578 runs in the 2019 World Cup.
Rohit also has the most sixes in a World Cup edition under his belt as he slammed 31 sixes. He also surpassed Chris Gayle’s (85 sixes against England) record of smacking most sixes against a single team in ODIs.
Earlier, Australia captain Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to field first against undefeated hosts to be played in front of 130,000 fans.
