“I’ve got two young girls and these guys coming in – masked assailants in the early hours of the morning – that’s going to scar a three-year-old for many, many years to come,” he told 7NEWS.

“So as soon as I saw it, I wanted to handle it.”

Caswell also revealed his wife Jenna Surridge is pregnant with the couple’s third child.

Surridge said she was aware of the danger her husband could have been in when he jumped out of bed in the early hours of Sunday morning after their phones went “absolutely mental” with security camera notifications.

“Don’t get stabbed,” she pleaded with him as he ran from the bedroom of their Benowa Waters home.

Caswell said the thieves, who were at the front of the property, would have been scared off by the garage door opening.

He chased them down the street but was unable to reach them before they fled the scene in a getaway car.

Caswell, 32,also said he was aware of the “loss of life” in North Lakes when mother-of-two Emma Lovell was stabbed by alleged teen home invaders on Boxing Day.

But he believed he had to “do something” when burglars were at his home.

“I have no problem chasing these assailants off my property,” he said.

“I’ll do it each and every day. I’ll do it again.”

He relinquished the title later in the year.
