By India Today Web Desk: Liverpools 2022 season in the Premier League has been underwhelming, to say the least. Jurgen Klopps team is currently tottering at the 10th position in the league table after their loss to Arsenal on Sunday, 9 October.
Liverpool lost a topsy-turvy game at the Emirates Stadium 2-3 against the current league leaders. Star defender Virgil van Dijk is of the opinion that the teams lack of confidence creates big issues for them in the crunch moments of the game.
“We’re all human beings and sometimes you need confidence in certain moments … if your confidence isn’t as high, it isn’t helping in certain situations,” Van Dijk told Sky Sports after the game.
“Every human being, whatever job, whatever situation, you need a little bit of confidence to perform at the highest level. If you’re not winning like we are used to then confidence is creeping away, but we know that it can turn around, he further added.
Last year, Liverpool were runner-ups behind Manchester City in a drama-filled final day of the Premier League. However, this season, Liverpools defensive frailties means that they have already dropped points in six out of their eight matches.
“We know we have to work and we have to work hard. That’s the only thing to do and the only way forward,” Van Dijk said.
“The only thing we can do is try to win the next game,” he further added.
“We know in the league it’s going to be quite a tough one but first we have to recover, look at … what we can do better because there will be plenty of moments that we can all do better,” the star defender concluded.
