Detroit-style pizza is the pizza of the moment, and now, more of the Bay Area can enjoy a slice with their beer. The rapidly expanding Joyride Pizza, which has four San Francisco locations, recently brought its thick, crispy-edged pizza to breweries in the East Bay and the Peninsula.
Earlier this month, Joyride announced a new partnership with Gilman Brewing on Instagram. Joyride now serves its full menu at the brewery’s Berkeley and Daly City taprooms.
Brothers Joshua and Jesse Jacobs operated Samovar Tea Lounges in San Francisco until they decided to convert their Valencia Street store into a pizza shop in 2021. Thus, with the help of pizza consultant Alastair Hannmann, Joyride Pizza was born. The restaurant’s Detroit-style pizza menu includes everything from pepperoni to a veggie pizza with Brussels sprouts and a “Sweet Bianca” with fig jam and ricotta.
“Everyone was asking us to come to the East Bay,” Joyride co-founder Jesse Jacobs told Eater. “Gilman has an amazing community, a great team, a great product.”
Joyride Pizza is available at Gilman Brewing at 912 Gilman St., Berkeley, Sunday through Thursday, noon to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, noon to 10 p.m. It’s available at Gilman Brewing at 2001 Junipero Serra Blvd., Suite 180, Daly City, Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 9 p.m.
