By India Today Web Desk: Brazilian star Pele is showing improvement, doctors said on Tuesday, December 6. It has been a week since the legend was admitted to the hospital to treat a respiratory infection which was aggravated by the deadly Covid-19. The veteran is said to be leaving hospital when he gets completely fit.

“(He has) stable vital signs, is conscious, and with no new complications,” the Albert Einstein hospital was quoted as saying in a statement.

Earlier, Pele’s daughters and grandson said that Pele had to be taken to the hospital.

“He is sick, he is old. But at the moment, he is there because of the lung infection. And once he feels better, he will go home again,” Kely Nascimento, one of his daughters, was quoted as saying to TV Globo from the United States of America (USA) where she lives.

“He is not saying goodbye in a hospital at the moment,” she added.

Pele, who has three World Cup titles to his name, is also undergoing chemotherapy amidst his fight with cancer.

Earlier, Pele said that he would watch Brazil’s Round of 16 match against South Korea in the FIFA World Cup 2022. Brazil went on to win the match 4-1 and progressed to the quarters where they will face Croatia at the Education Stadium.

The Brazilian fans have also carried banners and wore shirts to pay tribute to Pele during the multi-nation event in Qatar.

Back in September, Pele had a colon tumour removed, but his family and hospital have refrained from divulging more information on the same.
