Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that police was duty-bound to arrest Khera. If the FIR has been registered under relevant sections.
Assam police IGP Prasanta Kumar Bhuyan, said: “Khera has been arrested for a case lodged in Haflong police station of the state. He has been produced at a Delhi court for a transit remand. Once we get it, he will be brought here for interrogation.
The FIR against the senior Congress leader was lodged on Wednesday. The FIR was lodged by Samuel Changsan. Case was filed under section 153A/153B(1)/500/504/505(1)(b) and 505(2).
The complainant was regarding a comment by Pawan Khera on the Prime Minister and his father.
On February 20, Union Home minister, Amit Shah in a rally in Nagaland slammed Congress leader Pawan Khera for insulting the PM by calling him ‘Narendra Gautam Das Modi’. “The language used by a Congress spokesperson (Pawan Khera) for PM Modi today is not his statement, but a statement that’s in accordance with Rahul Gandhi’s nature. Rahul Gandhi used abusive language for PM Modi in 2019 and as a result, Congress lost its Opposition status,” Shah said.
He said, “We cannot reduce to the level of congress leaders and therefore people here must give befitting reply to Congress leaders by voting for BJP-NDPP alliance”.Sarma said, “Assam police was duty-bound to arrest Khera. If the FIR has been registered under relevant sections, the police has all the rights to arrest’
‘The manner in which he was arrested is not important, whether he’s boarding a flight does not matter’
He said, “‘Whenever there is an offence, there will be clampdown.”
