By India Today Web Desk: Tamil Nadu batter Narayan Jagadeesan set a new world record on Monday, November 21, becoming the first man in the history of List A cricket to hit 5 successive hundreds. He overtook former Sri Lanka batter Kumar Sangakkara, South Africa’s Alviro Petersen and Karnataka opener Devdutt Padikkal, all of whom have 4 successive centuries in the 50-over format of the game.

Jagadeesan achieved the feat at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium when hit a 79-ball hundred against Arunachal Pradesh in the 6th round of Elite Group C contest in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022. Jagadesan was in imperious touch as he was making a mockery of the Arunachal attack, stitching more than a 250-run partnership with fellow Tamil Nadu opener B Sai Sudarsan on Monday.

Jagadeesan also went past Virat Kohli, Prithvi Shaw, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devdutt Padikkal to hit the most number of hundreds in a single edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Kohli had scored four centuries in the 2008-09 season, topping the batting charts that year with 534 runs from seven matches at an average of 89.

Jagadeesan has already gone past the 600-run mark in his 6th match. Jagadeesan has an opportunity to stretch his record-breaking feat as Tamil Nadu will take on Kerala in their final group-stage match on November 23.

Jagadeesan, on Monday, had gone past 150-run mark in just the 30th over of Tamil Nadu’s innings. He had hit 16 boundaries and 5 sixes and was going strong with his partner Sudarshan. It was the second time Jagadeesan went past the 150-run mark in the ongoing tournament.

However, the 26-year-old has been in the form of his life in the ongoing season. Jagadeesan had begun his Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign on a poor note, getting out for 5 against Bihar in Alur on November 12. However, he turned it around with an unbeaten 114 against Andhra. Jagadeesan then went on to hit 107 against Chattisgarh, 168 against Goa and 128 against Haryana.
