Three Bay Area restaurants are among 15 new California winners to earn Bib Gourmand status.
On Tuesday, Michelin awarded San Francisco restaurants Good Good Culture Club and Hilda and Jesse the honor, which celebrates quality restaurants with reasonable prices. In Oakland, Jo’s Modern Thai was also a winner.
“The menu, designed by Chef Intu-On Kornnawong, displays the bold, balanced flavors typical of Thai cuisine, but isn’t overly concerned with hewing to tradition,” Michelin said of Jo’s Modern Thai. “That creative, irreverent approach is exemplified in dishes like a signature take on drunken noodles, which features smoky barbecue brisket, or a pork burger seasoned to resemble the complex herbaceous flavors of laab.”
Of Good Good Culture Club, Michelin inspectors highlighted the restaurant’s adobo-glazed stuffed chicken wings, as well as the overall “vibrantly flavorful cooking.” Hilda and Jesse was also celebrated for its “cheery and warm” atmosphere with a menu to match.
The Tuesday reveal is a teaser for distinguished restaurants that are new to the Bib Gourmand honor. Next month, the complete list of 141 Bib Gourmand winners will be shared at the Michelin Guide California 2022 award ceremony on Dec. 5.
The recognition comes a few weeks after seven Bay Area restaurants were added to the Michelin Guide earlier this month. The honorees included San Francisco winners Itria, Ken, Osito and Yuji. In Oakland, the restaurants included Bird & Buffalo and Hi Felicia. Cyrus in Geyserville was likewise listed.
