Lucy Hale recently celebrated a major milestone: one year of sobriety. On Feb. 14, the former “Pretty Little Liars” actor shared her sober journey on Instagram in an “alternative” Valentine’s Day post. “This is a post about self-love and about the greatest thing I’ve ever done,” she wrote alongside a photo of a cake with “1 Year!” written in icing. “On January 2, 2023 I celebrated one year of sobriety.”

“I felt compelled tonight to let anyone who is struggling know that you are not alone and you are loved.”

She continued, “While this journey has mostly been private, I felt compelled tonight to let anyone who is struggling know that you are not alone and you are loved.” Former costars and friends congratulated Hale and applauded her vulnerability in the comments. “This is brave. And cool. And inspirational. And you deserve all the self love and love from others that goes with it,” “Pretty Little Liars” cast member Troian Bellisario wrote. Demi Lovato also expressed their love, thanking Hale for “being a part of my journey and allowing me to be a part of yours.”

Hale spoke about quitting drinking in an interview with Byrdie back in 2017. “I’m just always trying to surround myself with better people and be the best version of myself possible,” she told the outlet. “I know it sounds obnoxious to hear people say that, but why not?” She added that she had “no interest” in the Hollywood party scene after starting her career so young.

Celebrities like Drew Barrymore, Macklemore, and Chrissy Teigen have also recently opened up about their journeys with sobriety and experiences with alcohol and drugs.
