Labor’s increased benefits only provide ‘further incentive’ to remain unemployed

Opposition leader Peter Dutton says the 440,000 job vacancies in Australia are a “problem” as there are over people 800,000 on “unemployment benefits” and the Albanese government’s solution is to “provide a further incentive” to remain out of work.

“Our approach was to say, ‘let’s allow people to work an extra shift or two’ – to earn more than the $40,” Mr Dutton told Sky News host Erin Molan.

“The introduction to that job might lead to a third or fourth or fifth shift or maybe full-time work because there are plenty of businesses who can’t get people to fill those vacancies.”
