T20 World Cup 2022 Final: After Pakistan’s 5-wicket defeat to England in the final in Melbourne on Sunday, Mohammed Shami took a cheeky dig at Shoaib Akhtar. The former cricketer said he was left heartbroken by Babar Azam-led team’s inability to cross the finish line.

By India Today Web Desk: India fast bowler Mohammed Shami took to social media to take a dig at former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar, who was left heartbroken after Pakistan lost the T20 World Cup 2022 Final. England were crowned the champions after they clinched a 5-wicket win, successfully chasing down a 138-run total in 19 overs.

Mohammed Shami was quick to respond to Shoaib Akhtar’s post on Twitter, saying it was “Karma”. Not many were able to understand the context of Shami’s response but a few pointed out a throwback video in which Akhtar had questioned Shami’s selection to the T20 World Cup 2022 squad.

Shami was not in contention for T20Is after the last year’s World Cup but an injury to Jasprit Bumrah forced the Indian team management to include the senior pacer in the 15-man squad.

Shami’s comment left the cricket fans on the social media platform divided.

Shami also congratulated Jos Buttler’s England, who became only the second team after the West Indies (2012 and 2016) to win the T20 World Cup trophy more than once in men’s cricket.

England rode on a stunning all-round performance from Ben Stokes, who hit a fifty and picked up a wicket in the final in Melbourne. Sam Curran shone on the big stage, picking up 3 for 12 in his 4-over spell while Adil Rashid delivered the killer blow by picking up the wicket of Pakistan captain Babar Azam, who was batting on 32 from 27 balls, looking to cut loose after the 12th over.

It was a disappointing show from Pakistan’s big guns Mohammad Rizwan and Babar after Jos Buttler won the toss and opted to field.

Pakistan were hoping to repeat the heroics of Imran Khan’s 1992 World Cup-winning team as there were plenty of similarities between the two campaigns. Babar’s men, who had gotten out of jail after their shock loss to Zimbabwe in the Super 12 stage, defeated New Zealand by a convincing margin in the final but England’s T20 prowess was too good for them in the MCG final.
