Impossible Foods has issued a voluntary recall after the Bay Area-based company discovered one of its popular products contained pieces of wood.
The plant-based company issued a recall on March 17, after small pieces of wood were found in some frozen Impossible Chicken Nuggets products produced between Oct. 20, 2022, and Nov. 23, 2022, according to a press release.
“While this issue has affected less than 0.000005% of total packages of this particular product, this is simply unacceptable given that consumers and customers place their trust in us with every purchase of Impossible Foods they make,” the press release read in part. “Once we identified the issue, we immediately contacted the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to alert them and indicate that we would be issuing a voluntary recall.”
In addition to the Impossible Chicken Nuggets recall, the business has also preemptively pulled Impossible Wild Nuggies, its kid-friendly nugget spinoff, that were produced during the same time period, an Impossible Foods spokesperson told SFGATE via email. “No issues were found with the product,” the spokesperson said, and no other Impossible Foods products were recalled in the process.
“Retailers have confirmed that the recalled lots of chicken nuggets have now been fully removed from store shelves and all product available for purchase was manufactured after the recall dates,” the spokesperson added.
Customers who purchased Impossible Chicken Nuggets within the recall date period are eligible for Impossible Foods coupons.
Impossible Foods has been in headlines recently after speculation last month that Impossible Foods would be the next tech company to issue layoffs. The rumors proved to be true: Earlier this month, Impossible Foods laid off 132 workers at its Redwood City office, according to the San Francisco Business Times.
