Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says “wholesale” prices have halved as a result of announcing the power bill reduction effort and are dealing with the COVID and Ukraine invasion in a “practical way” bringing forward legislation in an effort to reduce inflation.
“As a result of us announcing it wholesale prices have halved as a result,” Mr Albanese said during Question Time on Monday.
“This is what Philip Lowe, the RBA Governor had to say – ‘this episode of high inflation has its origins mainly in developments on the supply side – over time demand-side factors have become more prominent, it emerged in the wake of the COVID supply chain disruptions in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine’.
“We are dealing with that in a practical way, we brought forward legislation, indeed brought the parliament back here last December for extraordinary action due to the extraordinary circumstances.”
