Oakland offers 20 Michelin-rated restaurants including Horn Barbecue, Commis, and Taqueria El Paisa. It’s also home to James Beard nominated restaurants that include Wahpepah’s Kitchen and Understory. Whatever you are craving, chances are you can find it in Oakland.
From innovative Thai cuisine, Filipino fusion from or fresh Vietnamese dishes to Afro-Brazilian specialties, authentic Ethiopian food or traditional Oazacan recipes, Oakland chefs are showing off and Oakland Restaurant Week is the best time to try it all.

This year’s Oakland Restaurant Week is happening March 16-26th, 2023. Both new and established restaurants will be offering a specially-curated lunch and/ or dinner menu that include family-style dinners, special menu items, prix fixe menus, ingredient-driven tastings and more that best showcase the their flavors and cuisine.
“Every year, we look forward to Oakland Restaurant Week,” explains Chef/ Owner Nelson German of alaMar Kitchen and Sobre Mesa, both of which are participating in Restaurant Week. “It’s a special time where the Oakland culinary scene gets to shine.”
The community in Oakland is made up of a variety of culturally-distinct neighborhoods that offer unique and creative fusions, surprisingly delicious pairings, and an overall innovative food scene that needs to be explored to be understood. Hot spots include Jack London Square, Temescal, Uptown and Fruitvale, to name a just few.
“Oakland Restaurant Week brings people from all over the SF Bay Area to check out the beautiful diverse food scene here,” continues German. “We have so many cultures being represented in the town. Oakland Restaurant Week brings a much needed boost in business for local restaurants when it’s a traditionally slow month.”
All Oakland Restaurant Week participants will feature lunch and/or dinner menus at six different price points: lunch at $15, $25, $35 and/ or dinner: $35, $45, $65.
