Fashion icon turns heads in $1900 suit

One of Australia’s fashion icons has done it again, making a serious statement for the start of the Spring Racing season in a bold suit.

Model Christian Wilkins, the son of Nine entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins, stepped out in a tartan suit with a difference at Flemington Race Course over the weekend.

The $1900 three-piece non-gendered suit, from Tommy Hilfiger’s Richard Quinn collection, features a bold red tartan pattern dotted with blue flowers.

The trousers cost $799, while the turtleneck shirt – which features built-in gloves – and blazer are both $549.

He finished the look with a pair of silver sunglasses, heeled boots and a $799 studded bag from the same Tommy Hilfiger collection.

Christian’s make-up, which featured a glossy lip and bold highlighter with bright blue accents and black eyeliner around his eyes, was done by Valentina Arjona.

Christian caption his photos: “Gai and proud. Consider this my entry into best suited for Fashions on the Field please.”

It comes after September’s announcement that Christian would be Victoria Racing Club’s newest ambassador, alongside Delta Goodrem.

Another announcement made at the time was the huge change to VRC’s Fashions on the Field competition.

For the first time ever, the VRC has ditched its gendered categories.

In 2022, the women’s and men’s racewear competitions will instead be the best dressed and best suited awards, with all genders encouraged to enter either category based on their unique personal style.

This is set to make things more inclusive, while still keeping the competition alive.

VRC chairman Neil Wilson said: “In celebration of Myer Fashions on the Field’s 60th anniversary and its return to Flemington, we are ensuring that our fashion story drives equality, inclusion and individuality as we set course for the next 60 years.

“We proudly embrace the notion that fashion and style are an expression of individual creativity and believe this should be reflected in the international event.”

This isn’t the only new addition. For the first time there will be a chance for a finalist in both categories to represent New Zealand in the Myer Fashions on the Field National Final.
