Mikkeller Bar has closed its San Francisco location after nine years.
Andrew D. via YelpCopenhagen-based beer company Mikkeller has closed its San Francisco beer bar after nine years, according to a press release.
“Mikkeller Bar San Francisco was the second Mikkeller Bar we opened and the start of our entire operation in the States, so that place means something very special to us and it is of course very sad to have to say goodbye,” said Mikkeller founder Mikkel Bjergsø. “But we will still be present in the US and continuously strive to make great beer and great experiences.”
This news comes just over a month after the company announced the closure of its San Diego brewing facility, citing “two years of COVID and the difficult current rising cost environment,” reported Good Beer Hunting. At that time, the company also said it would lay off about half of its 50 U.S. employees.
With the closure of the Tenderloin Mikkeller Bar, the beer company’s only remaining U.S. location is its taproom in San Diego’s Little Italy. Still, dozens of Mikkeller bars remain open across Europe and Asia.
Back in May 2020, rumors circulated that Mikkeller San Francisco would close due to the financial difficulties of the pandemic. The bar’s space at 34 Mason St. was even found listed for sale online, but it ultimately reopened in the spring of 2021.
Mikkeller Bar San Francisco is officially closed as of this week.
