In the TV Documentary “Luckiest Catch,” which focuses primarily on the story of the F/V Northwestern and brothers Sig and Edgar Hansen, Sig’s wife June Hansen admitted that she found Sig’s celebrity status to be extremely strange once “Deadliest Catch” really took off.
“It’s pretty strange and it’s kind of hard once in a while,” June explained. “Not the first couple of years, but now it’s so popular … even if we go to the store I kind of figure a little bit [of] extra time before we get there until we get home again. Because he’s really nice, he takes time for everyone.” Sig Hansen himself added that he certainly wouldn’t be able to deal with the added attention if his wife was the celebrity, recalling how he himself received fan letters and marriage proposals once the show really took off.
In any case, June’s later appearances within the series make it clear that both she and Sig Hansen have grown accustomed to their unexpected fame over the years, as has their daughter Mandy, who followed in her father’s footsteps and is now a regular cast member on “Deadliest Catch.” Although June Hansen may have found Sig’s fame to be off-putting at the beginning of the series, it seems like the entire family has grown accustomed to the fame that “Deadliest Catch” brought to the Hansen clan.
