It’s the end of an era for a popular Thai restaurant operating out of a renovated Victorian in San Francisco.

Ploy II Thai Cuisine, a hole-in-the-wall eatery known for its homey atmosphere and simple, comforting dishes, announced that it has closed for good after more than three decades in the Haight.

“To our neighbors & diners, thank you for supporting our restaurant for the past 33 years! We had an amazing run, and now it’s time for us to retire,” read a sign taped to the front window that was spotted by SFGATE on Wednesday evening. “From the bottom of our heart, thank you for everything!”

The restaurant was reported closed on Yelp as of a few days ago, and its website was no longer up. SFGATE attempted to reach the restaurant by phone and email but did not hear back by time of publication.

It marks the loss of a prime solo dining experience in the neighborhood. After wandering up a narrow staircase to the second floor, you’d find yourself greeted by wood-paneled walls, a converted fireplace and a chalkboard menu denoting the day’s specials. White lace curtains sectioned off the dining area, where people hunched over generous plates of pumpkin curry and pad kee mao served on red-and-white checkered tablecloths. The window seats were perfect for people-watching from a bird’s-eye view on Haight Street (and I’ll miss the rainbow WordArt flyer reminding me to watch my step on the way to the bathroom).
