CBI searches premises of Satya Pal Malik’s ex-media advisor

The CBI on Wednesday searched a dozen locations in Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi and Rajasthan, including the premises of former J&K governor Satya Pal Malik’s ex-media advisor Saunak Bali.

The searches were part of CBI’s probe into an alleged insurance scam in J&K. The premises of a chartered accountant and private individuals based in Delhi and Rajasthan were searched too. CBI had summoned Malik last month on his claim that he was offered bribe to clear files.

Malik claimed in October 2021 that he was offered a ₹300 crore bribe for clearing two files, one pertaining to “Ambani” and another related to an RSS leader. Based on the accusation, CBI registered two cases and searched 14 locations. Last year, it booked Anil Ambani’s Reliance General Insurance Company and officials of Chenab Valley Power Projects. Malik cancelled the insurance deal in October 2018. Last year, CBI examined Malik in connection with the two cases.

CBI had registered two cases to probe alleged malpractices in award of civic works of ₹4,278 crore for the Kiru Hydro Electric Power Project. Incidentally, CBI’s summons came days after Malik alleged in an interview that the PM had asked him to stay silent over the home ministry refusing to provide aircraft to CRPF to ferry its soldiers. The force moved by road in a convoy, thereafter and 40 personnel were killed in a terror attack in Pulwama.
