Despite the Australian guard’s 29 points, which included seven three-pointers, Cairns held on for an 85-83 win in Auckland on Sunday.

Breakers captain Tom Abercrombie had a three-point shot at the final buzzer to win the game but his effort hit the front of the rim as the visiting Taipans wrapped up their sixth consecutive victory.

The loss completed a tough week for the New Zealand side.

They lost a close game against Perth in Perth on Tuesday and two days later suffered a 12-point defeat to Melbourne United in Christchurch.

Along with McDowell-White, Jarrell Brantley also turned in an impressive showing in a losing cause.

The American forward had big double-double, bagging 25 points and adding 14 rebounds.

Cairns produced a balanced scoring performance as DJ Hogg, Tahjere McCall and Bul Kuol all went for 18 points, while Shannon Scott contributed 10.

The Breakers next chance to get back in the winners column would be at home against Illawarra in Auckland on Thursday.
