Bengal: Two Trinamool leaders hacked to death, another leader shot

In two separate incidents, two Trinamool leaders were hacked to death in Coochbehar district while another party leader was shot from point blank range in Nadia district. In the last three months, several other incidents of attack and death of grassroot leaders of Trinamool Congress have been reported in various parts of the state.

A Trinamool Congress Panchayat member, her husband, who is also party leader, and their daughter- three members of a family were hacked to death allegedly by some miscreants in West Bengal’s Coochbehar district. The couple’s other daughter has been admitted to the hospital and her condition is critical.

Neelima Barman was an elected Gram Panchayat member of Trinamool Congress from Sitalkuchi while her husband was the Sitalkuchi block president of the SC/ ST cell. The main accused, including two others, were arrested, police sources said.

Trinamool leader Neelima Barman, her husband and their daughter were hacked to death brutally by some miscreants who entered their house, people in the know said.

The prime accused and two of his associates have been arrested from the crime spot, Additional district police superintendent Amit Verma said.

Trinamool Panchayat member Nilima Barman, her husband Bimal Kumar Barman and their elder daughter Runa Barman died following the brutal attack on them in the wee hours of Friday. The couple’s younger daughter Iti Burman was grievously injured in the attack and has been hospitalized.

The reason behind the murder, whether it is personal or political, is yet to be ascertained.Meanwhile in another incident, in Nadia district’s Hanshkhali, another Panchayat leader Amod Ali Biswas was allegedly shot by 8-10 masked miscreants today morning while he was sitting at a tea shop. Amod Ali was Anchal Sabhapati (Area President) of Boro Chupria in Nadia district.

In a series of incidents, several Trinamool leaders were allegedly murdered in various parts of the state. On March 30, two Trinamool leaders were shot dead in Chopra. On February 19, a Trinamool Booth President died in South 24 Parganas district’s Bishnupur. There were other incidents in December last year as well.
