After more than five decades of serving juicy steaks alongside loaded oven-baked potatoes, the Cattlemens Steakhouse in Santa Rosa is preparing to close its doors.
Cattlemens is expected to shutter sometime at the end of the year after a 53-year tenure at Santa Rosa’s Montgomery Village, as first reported by The Press Democrat. According to a news release shared with SFGATE, Cattlemens was unable to renew its lease at 2400 Midway Drive.
“Although we have been committed to the community surrounding Montgomery Village for over 50 years, mutual agreement on the terms for a new Lease could not be reached,” Cattlemens president Peter Mrozik said in the statement.
But there is a silver lining. Cattlemens has already secured a new storefront in Rohnert Park, just a short drive south of Santa Rosa. Earlier this year, the North Bay Business Journal reported that Cattlemens had purchased the former site of the Outback Steakhouse at 4619 Redwood Drive for about $2.25 million. The news release shared with SFGATE confirmed that the address will be home to the new Cattlemens Steakhouse that the chain hopes to open in 2023.
Mrozik said in a statement that despite having the opportunity to gain a location in Rohnert Park, the decision to relocate wasn’t easy. Many of the customers who dined at the Santa Rosa restaurant were longtime customers of 30 to 40 years.
“Many of them came as kids and now bring their families,” Miranda Smith, Cattlemens marketing manager, said in a statement. “It’s that relationship and emotional connection we have with our guests that Cattlemens’ success is owed to, and is certainly one of the main reasons our restaurant has been a fixture for over 53 years.”
According to The Press Democrat, many of the existing staffers at the Santa Rosa location are expected to move to the new restaurant. Cattlemens opened its first location in Redondo Beach in 1968 before eventually opening more stores around the state. In the Bay Area, there are still four locations in Santa Rosa, Petaluma, Livermore and Dixon.
