Bay Area Cattlemens could be demolished for a Chick-fil-A

The Cattlemens restaurant, at 5012 Petaluma Blvd., would need to be demolished for a new Chick-fil-A restaurant, complete with a drive-thru, if Petaluma approves development plans for a retail property at 5002 N. Petaluma Blvd.

Miranda Smith, Cattlemens marketing manager, told SFGATE that Cattlemens is aware of the submitted plans and that the steakhouse hopes it can continue to serve Petaluma as it has for the past 52 years.

“Until the sale of the property is finalized, and we know there are set plans in place, Cattlemens plans to stay open and serve up great steaks daily to the wonderful community of Petaluma.”

Preliminary plans submitted by developer Dynamic Real Estate Partners show that the current 9,040-square-foot Cattlemens restaurant would be completely torn down to construct a 5,000-square-foot Chick-fil-A. In addition to a drive-thru, the proposed fast food restaurant would have outdoor seating. SFGATE reached out to Chick-fil-A for comment but did not hear back by publication.

The news comes weeks after Cattlemens announced that it would shutter its 53-year-old restaurant in Santa Rosa by the end of the year, as it was unable to renew its lease. Plans are already in place to open a new Cattlemens at 4619 Redwood Dr. in Rohnert Park by 2023. Cattlemens continues to operate locations in Livermore and Dixon, in addition to Santa Rosa and Petaluma.

The Petaluma Cattlemens restaurant is located at 5012 Petaluma Blvd.

Chick-fil-A has ramped up expansion. Last month, the popular chicken sandwich chain opened its latest Bay Area location in San Jose, and it has plans slated to open a restaurant in Emeryville. In September, Chick-fil-A also opened its first Hawaii outpost, located in Kahului, Maui.
