For those returning to the office this week, one worker has shared a helpful memo to get through those first few, awkward encounters with colleagues.
Sharing the document on Reddit’s ‘Casual UK’ thread, the person had considered the most common questions colleagues may ask about their holidays, providing quick and easy answers.
“First day back in the office at work. Printed off some FAQs to stick on the door to avoid the post-Christmas small talk barrage,” they captioned the post.
“Genius or peak anti-social grump?”

Underneath a picture of a computer mouse, the memo reads: “Back at work with FAQs…”
Beneath the title “Christmas” they provide the answers:
“Yes it was alright thanks, I hope yours was too.”
“We went to (insert name) parents and ate our body weights in chicken, beef and pork (no turkey).”

“I got some new boots, socks and Lynx Africa (I’m 31…).
Under the title “New Year’s” they write:
“Happy New Year.”
“We stayed in and watch TV.”
“No I don’t have any New Year’s Resolutions.”
“No I’m not glad to be back at work!”
While some were grateful for the idea, others weren’t as accepting of their guidance.
“Pretty sure you’re the guy in the office who everyone tries to avoid talking to, so you’ll be fine,” one commented.
“Something about socially awkward Redditors parading their weird behaviour as britishness makes me particularly nauseous,” said another.
“Might as well have printed a middle finger,” another commented.
“This. I feel slightly depressed for the human race,” one said.
Others saw the humour in the memo.
“I had a running joke a few years back with a colleague where we’d ask each other how each others new years was with full explanation. we got to February before it stopped,” they said.
Another commented: “And they say work from home is less efficient than being in the office.”
