Total transformation! Viewers have watched 1000-Lb. Sisters star Tammy Slaton deal with major health problems over the years, and now they’re cheering her on as she works to lose weight.
Since the 2020 premiere of 1000-Lb. Sisters, Tammy and sister Amy Halterman‘s (née Slaton) fans have tuned into TLC to watch the Kentucky natives battle the scale in order to live the lives they want. While Amy was determined to shed pounds in order to have children — she is now the mom of two sons with husband Michael Haltermann — Tammy wanted to live a healthier lifestyle in order to avoid being confined to bed due to her weight.
Tammy suffered numerous health crises throughout the years as her weight and partying lifestyle grew out of control. In November 2021, the reality star was put on life support after suffering carbon monoxide poisoning. Miraculously, Tammy, who also underwent tracheostomy during the ordeal, survived — and thrived.
In the finale of season 3, which aired in January 2022, Tammy’s brother, Chris Combs, revealed that she had already lost 115 lbs while at a rehab facility in Ohio, where she had been after being released from the hospital. For her part, Tammy uploaded a video via TikTok the following month where she teased her significant weight loss.
“I’d love to give you a weight loss update, but you’re going to have to wait until season 4 comes out. Sorry!” the TLC personality told fans at the time, adding, “Just know that I’m staying on track and things are looking up!”
Nine months later, Tammy tied the knot with Caleb Willingham — a man she met at the rehab facility. Caleb proposed to her that October in the parking lot of the treatment center, and the two wed at the location with a small celebration with family and friends.
In previously filmed footage for the season 4 premiere of 1000-Lb. Sisters, which aired in January 2023, Tammy hit her low point, which inspired her to seek help.
“Two months ago, I decided to go back to rehab. I weighed the most I’ve ever weighed,” she explained in a confessional, which showed her stepping onto a scale and learning that she weighed 717 lbs. “I just don’t feel good,” she cried.
In real-time, Tammy seems happier than ever while showing off her significant weight loss via TikTok. Though she revealed in a January 2023 video that she “can’t” discuss everything that’s “going on with my hair, my weight, my clothes, my marriage” because she’s “still under contract” with TLC, she encouraged fans to tune into the season 4 premiere to follow her journey.
